OBTAINING YOUR CULTIVATION & SALE LICENCE

Cultivation and Sales License

Canada is the only G7 country in the world to have
a legal framework for cannabis.

In Canada, individuals and corporations can apply to become what is called a “licensed producer” (LP) of medical cannabis. This allows them to cultivate plants, manufacture cannabis oil, and sell medical cannabis direct to Canadians. The Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR) falls within the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). Canada’s legal cannabis system has been in place for many years, but various federal court cases have compelled the federal government to continue making cannabis more accessible. Canada is the only G7 country in the world to have a legal framework for cannabis. This is in contrast to the United States where cannabis is a Schedule I narcotic and therefore technically illegal.

It should be noted that the cannabis regulations will change in mid-2017, but government proposals have laid out a parallel system for medical and recreational cannabis. This means that the current requirements for becoming a licensed producer will remain as they stand today. For more information on the Task Force Report click here.

Historically the failure rate of progressing through the licensing system is high, and the review time is lengthy (upwards of two to three years). Our company has assisted many significant firms in creating their programs, and our staff have hands-on experience working at licensed facilities in the last three years. CCI is selective on which projects we take on, given our interest in securing the best reputation in this space.
